Session Title: | Forms Based Metadata Curation- Session 2 |
Course Level: | Basic |
Audience: | caDSR Users and Metadata Consumers |
Description: This course is comprised of 2 online, instructor-led training sessions.
Overview:
Case Report Forms (CRFs) or other Data Collection Instruments (DCIs) vary greatly across and within domains. Each question and answer on a case report form (or other data collection instrument) can be deconstructed into a data element. The identification of semantically equivalent metadata facilitates the aggregation of data across different domains. This course is comprised of two sessions:
Course 1061: Forms Based Metadata Curation, Session 1 provides learners with a review of Common Data Elements (CDEs) and the organization of CDEs in caDSR. A break-down of the structure of key Administered Items and how they relate to CRFs or other DCIs will also be presented. Learners will be guided through the steps required to map the questions and answers on a form to a metamodel standard used to create a complete data element. Searching, evaluating, and reusing CDEs and their component Data Element Concepts (DECs) and Value Domains (VDs) will be discussed as well as designating CDEs and the curation of alternate names, definitions, question texts and value meanings.
Credit for the Course: In order to receive credit for this course, you will need to register for course 1061, 1062, and 1064 by contacting NCI CBIIT Application Support and obtain a score of 80% or higher. Course 1064 is the quiz which is comprised of questions from both 1061 and 1062 course materials.
Objectives:
- Define a Common Data Element
- Describe how CDEs are formed
- Identify the metadata standard used to guide metadata curation
- Describe how metadata is organized in the caDSR
- Discuss how to transform a question on a Case Report Form (CRF) or Data Collection Instrument (DCI) into a CDE
- Access caDSR Tools online to search for CDEs that match questions on forms
- Evaluate candidate metadata for reuse
- Designate CDEs for reuse when it is owned by another Context
- Curate semantically equivalent Alternate Names, Definitions, Question Texts and Value Meaning Names for your project needs
