Clinical data are data collected by the Biospecimen Core Resource (BCR) related to the participant and the collection of the participant sample. Clinical data are available in XML and as a flatfile biotab format. Definitions of terms within categories are provided by the TCGA BCR Data Dictionary.  These terms are modifications of the CDEs (Common Data Elements) from the Cancer Data Standards Repository (caDSR).

The vocabulary for clinical and biospecimen data elements is standardized in XML Schema documents available on the DCC filesystem. All clinical data accepted and deployed by the DCC is valid against these schemas.

TCGA clinical data represent many categories of information, including vital status at time of report, disease-specific diagnostic information, and initial treament regimens. Some but not all disease studies have additional clinical follow up information for some or all participants.
