The wiggle (WIG) format describes dense, continuous data such as sequence coverage, GC percent, and probability scores.

While UCSC provided the original WIG and bigWig specifications, TCGA has a modified WIG specification that should be used for submitting or using TCGA created WIG files.

WIG files indicate whether or not the sequencing coverage at a given genomic site was satisfactory to make a positive determination of a variant.

A binary form of the WIG format (BigWig) provides indexing to allow efficient random access of the data contained within. BigWig files are not currently supported by- or submitted to- the DCC.
