3 - Finding Information in the Search Tree| CDE Browser User Guide | 5 - Viewing Data Element Information

This chapter provides instructions on managing the data elements that match your search criteria and display in the Results.

The chapter includes the following topics.

Data Element Search Results

The Search Results panel displays a list of CDEs in a table that you can sort and navigate. Additional tabs display information about an individual data element when you click the Long Name. The breadcrumb at the top indicates the organization, context, and selected classification or protocol form is listed, and also the form containing the CDEs in the Results table. For example: NCIP (NCI cancer Biomedical Informatics Grid) >> ProtocolForms >>C3D Adopter Template Forms.

Downloading the Search Results

Above the search results table are buttons to download all or the selected data elements in the search results to a pre-configured Excel or XML. From a downloaded file, you can review and manipulate the data outside of the caDSR toolset. Data element derivation details are included in CDE downloads.

To download CDE Browser DTDs, see Downloading DTDs below.

Some important tips about downloading items
  • Data element derivation details are included in CDE downloads.
  • Downloading data elements to an XML file is considerably slower than downloading to an Excel file.
  • When you download a file, save the file instead of opening it. This saves time and eliminates possible problems opening a large file.

The following table provides instructions to download to an Excel and XML file.

Advisory for Network Resources

To eliminate stress on your local and network resources, the caDSR team packages the most commonly requested sets of CDEs for download. We strongly recommend reviewing the pre-configured CDE downloads by clicking Available Downloads at the top of the CDE Browser page.
