Redirection Notice

This page will redirect to caDSR CDE Browser User Guide in about 5 seconds.

The Long Name for each data element in the search result set is an active link that opens a more detailed view of the selected DE. The Data Element Detail view contains seven tabs, each containing detailed information about the data element and its components. This chapter describes the information contained on each of these tabs.

This chapter includes the following topics:

Data Element Details

When you click the Long Name of a DE in the search results, the Data Element Detail view appears, with the Data Element tab shown by default.

The top section of the Data Element tab shows details about the selected DE, including a Direct Link URL for the currently displayed data element detail view. This link can be used in email or documents or applications as needed and used to open the Data Element Detail view in CDE Browser.

The Direct Link format is designed to allow you to easily modify it to link to another CDE if necessary. To do this, copy the URL from the Direct Link field and change the Public ID and/or Version Number in the URL. These two values appear at the end of the URL and are identified as such.

The second section of the Data Element tab contains a list of the Alternate Names and Definitions for the DE. Included in this listing are the Classification Schemes and Class Scheme Items for each Alternate Name, as appropriate.

Below the Alternate Names and Definitions section is a list of any Reference Documents for the displayed DE.

At the bottom of the tab are listed all other versions of the DE, including links to the data element detail view for those versions. The classifications for the previous versions also appear with each version of the CDE shown.

Data Element Concepts

Clicking the Data Element Concept tab provides details about the data element concept (DEC) of the selected DE.

The Data Element Concept tab shows the selected DE at the top, followed by details about the DEC, including the object class and property that comprise the DEC.

The Object Class section of the tab provides a More Details link that opens the Object Class Browser, providing additional details about the object class. For more information on using the Object Class Browser, see Chapter 5 - Viewing Object Class and Association Details.

The Object Class Concepts and Property Concepts sections of the tab provide links for the concepts that comprise these components. These links open the NCI Thesaurus in a new window, showing details about the selected concept.

Value Domains

Clicking the Value Domain tab provides details about the value domain (VD) of the selected DE.

The Value Domain tab shows the selected DE at the top, followed by details about the VD, including the Representation for the VD, as well as the permissible values (PV) for the value domain, if the VD is enumerated.

The Concepts sections of the tab provide links for the concepts that comprise the identified components. These links open the NCI Thesaurus in a new window, showing details about the selected concept. This may include concepts for the Value Domain itself, Representation, Permissible Values and PV Meanings, as apply to the selected VD.

If the Value Domain is enumerated, any Permissible Values (PV) are listed in the Permissible Values section of the tab. The PV Meaning column contains links, as shown in the below figure.

Classifications

Clicking the Classifications tab provides details about the Classification(s) (Classification Schemes and/or Classification Scheme Items) to which the selected DE belongs.

The Classifications tab shows the selected DE at the top, followed by a list of the Classification Schemes (CS) and Classification Scheme Items (CSI) to which the DE belongs.

The tab also provides links to any Classification Scheme Reference Documents associated with the selected DE.

Usage of DE on Forms (Usage Tab)

Clicking the Usage tab provides a list of the forms on which the selected DE is used, to include all versions of the DE used on those forms.

The Form Usage list on the Usage tab shows the Protocol Number, the Lead Organization (if applicable), the Form Name, the Question Name on the form, the Form Usage Type, Public ID of the form, and the Version number of the selected DE used on that form.

Each form Public ID is an active link that opens the selected form in the Form Builder application. This allows you to view the form on which the DE is used.

Note

The Form Builder application requires a login in order to view forms. Because of the need to log into the application, the form link re-direct from CDE Browser will not open the form unless you are already logged into Form Builder. If you want to open a form using the form Public ID link on the Usage tab, you should open and log into Form Builder first. Then, click the Public ID link on the Usage tab to open the selected form in a new window.

Derived Data Elements (Data Element Derivation Tab)

Since some data elements can be created using derivation rules, each DE in CDE Browser provides a Data Element Derivation tab, allowing you to see details about the derivation of the DE if applicable.

The Data Element Derivation tab shows the selected DE at the top, followed by details about how the data element was derived. Below those details are listed the component data elements used in the derivation, including links for opening the detail view for each component data element.

Note

Data element derivation details are included in CDE downloads.

Administrative Information

Clicking the Admin Info tab provides contact information for the owners or curators of the selected DE and its components.

The Admin Info tab is designed to provide sufficient information to allow users to contact the appropriate person or organization regarding a data element or its component parts. This is particularly useful where changes to an administrative item are desired for use on a form or other reason.
