NIH | National Cancer Institute | NCI Wiki

This information is provided for NCI and non-government caDSR Users wishing to gain access to caDSR tools that require accounts.

caDSR end user tools are accessed via a web browser, preferably Firefox, but other browser software may work.  All tools except the caDSR Admin Tool are publicly accessibly, but some require a caDSR user account to access all the features, and the Admin Tool requires access behind the NIH firewall.  See "Request a Training Account"

CDE Browser

  • Does not require a caDSR user account for browsing and downloading content.
  • Requires a caDSR user account to save a random collection of CDEs into the CDE Cart for downloading, access via the caDSR Object Cart API, or to use in creating forms using caDSR Form Builder. We provide an account name "Guest" and password "Nci_gue5t", however contents are periodically deleted from the "Guest" CDE Cart. An appropriate use of the Guest account is for temporarily saving a set of CDEs for downloading.
  • To get a permanent account to save content to the CDE Cart, please apply for a caDSR Account via the Request a Training Account information.

Curation Tool, Form Builder

  • Both of these tools can be used to view and download content without a caDSR user account.
  • Requires an account to create CDEs and CRFs in production caDSR Contexts.  Creation of content also requires users complete caDSR Training. Please click on "Request a Training Account" for more information.
  • The Form Cart can be used by the "Guest" account with limited capabilities in the Test and Training Contexts: Account name "Guest" and password "Nci_gue5t"

Sentinel Tool:

  • Requires an account to create and save Sentinel "Alerts". Users must complete caDSR Training. Please click on "Request a Training Account" for more information.

The Admin Tool: REQUIRES ACCESS BEHIND NIH FIREWALL (ON-SITE OR AN NIH ACCOUNT)

caDSR privileges to access to this tool is restricted to named curators and others who are performing curation activities for specialized communities to use features not available in the Curation Tool or Form Builder, such as creatig Classification Schemes and Protocol entries. To gain access behind the firewall users must:

        • This is accomplished through a CBIIT BIZ/Service Now request completed by your sponsor. Instructions for the CBIIT sponsor can be found on the CBIIT Internal Collaborate wiki Guide for VPN Access Request. Users will receive VPN access via a modification to the AD record.
        • Users will be contacted by a caDSR staff member to discuss your requirement for access to this tool
        • caDSR staff will request a new "on-boarding" action for the caDSR users via the internal NCI CBIIT BIZ/Service Now request completed by your sponsor.
      • The CBITT staff member will guide you through this process
      • Access the tool after logging into VPN using Firefox browser
    2. 2-Factor Authentication requires NCI "on-boarding"
      • To initiate this activity, send an email request to CBIIT Help Desk requesting a NIH account to access the caDSR Admin Tool.
        • Users will be contacted by a caDSR staff member to discuss your requirement for access to this tool
        • caDSR staff will request a new "on-boarding" action for the caDSR users via the internal NCI CBIIT BIZ/Service Now request completed by your sponsor.
        • The CBIIT AO and sponsor will work with the user via email to complete the process.
        • This also results in the creation on an NIH Enterprise Directory (NED) entry for the user, that includes a request to create an NIH Email account.  The CBIIT staff ma use the and the creation of an NIH Email account
        • After you are set up in NED your sponsor will get an NIH Account, also known as Network account, Email Account, Active Directory (AD) account, or NIH Domain account. This which is accomplished by the NCI staff person updating your NED account.
        • After receiving the NIH Account, completing Security training, and enrolling for 2-factor Authentication, users gain access to the Admin Tool through NCI Remote App/Remote Access
