Tool Overview

The CDE (Common Data Element) Browser is the primary starting point for exploring the contents of the cancer Data Standards Repository (caDSR). CDE Browser supports searching for, downloading, and sharing of CDEs within or across contexts. You can also share CDEs with caDSR Form Builder to build and edit forms.

Search Options

CDE Browser search options include
  • Data Element Search finds CDEs via scope options and a keyword search across certain caDSR database fields.
  • Public ID Search finds CDEs via one or more public IDs and a keyword search across certain caDSR database fields.

Search Tree

Search Tree enables you to click through and display content by caDSR context (set up by NCI and NIH divisions and program areas) and classification schemes within those contexts. You can also use the Search Tree to display filtered results and then copy the URL into a document, web page, or new browser window to display those results.

Working with Form Builder

You can save a customized set of CDEs to the CDE Cart in CDE Browser and share the cart with Form Builder (as long as you have the same login credentials for both applications). You can then use Form Builder to access the saved CDEs or retrieve them during another session to create case report forms. Items placed in the CDE Cart are a copy and not automatically updated if the caDSR CDE or form changes. If an item changes, you must place the item in the Cart again for it to be updated.
