With over one million new biomedical publications indexed in PubMed every year, new biological knowledge is being generated at a breakneck pace. However, the scientific community’s ability to fully utilize that knowledge has not kept pace with the rate of knowledge generation. Developing better tools to efficiently query, summarize, and analyze the sum total of biomedical knowledge is a pressing challenge for the research community. "Crowdsourcing" is one mechanism for addressing massive challenges by harnessing the collective efforts of large communities. Scientists and biologists are increasingly applying crowdsourcing toward research problems. In this presentation, Dr. Su will present three such efforts that focus on both organizing and generating new biological knowledge on the function of human genes. |
