Comment: Revised based on discussion with Sunita.

If you want to register multiple files and provide metadata for each data file and each collection in that upload, prepare that metadata in a Microsoft Excel XLSX file.

  1. Download the sample metadata file from GitHub at (TBD).
  2. Revise the file to reflect the objects (files and folders) you intend to specify for upload via Globus:
    • The first column
    to
    • should reflect the location of each
    file you intend to upload
    • object
    Revise the remaining columns to
    • The first column should reflect the collection type. The default collection type is Folder.
    • The remaining columns should reflect the user-defined attributes for each object.
    • Each row should reflect one of your objects.
    • The system requires a row for each object with mandatory metadata
for the files you intend to upload.
    • If the default values are acceptable for all mandatory metadata of an object, you can omit that row.
  3. Remove all formatting (such as word wrapping). One way to do so is as follows:
    1. Save your XLSX file as a CSV file.
    2. Save that CSV file as an XLSX file.

For instructions on performing the bulk upload with the resulting metadata file, refer to Registering Data in Bulk via the GUI
