  1. Create or import an investigation, as described in one of the following pages:
  2. If the investigation does not already have at least one study, add one. For instructions, refer to , as described in Adding a Study
  3. In the Node panel, locate the study in which you intend to add an assay. Click the arrow to the left of the study icon. The study node expands. 
  4. Click Add assay. The Add assay dialog box appears. 
  5. From the Template Name list, select a template. 
  6. Click Add assay. The Metadata Utility reappears, with a new assay node at the top of the list of assays for the expanded study. By default, the assay file name is a_s0001_01.txt. 
  7. Select the new assay node. In the Element panel, scroll down to the Study Assay File Name field and customize the filename. 
  8. In the Node panel, click another node. The file name change takes effect.
