This section provides instructions for associating one or more trials with one that is currently registered in the CTRP. You can associate any number of trials with one that is currently registered in the CTRP.

The trials that you associate can be those currently registered in the CTRP or those that will be registered in the future. If the trial already exists in the CTRP,  the system populates all the trial information for you once you search/select the trial. If the trial has not yet been registered, you can enter the trial information directly in the fields provided. Later, when the associated trial is registered, the CTRP system updates the association automatically

How to Add Trial Associations

  1. Search for, and select, the trial you want to associate with other trials. For instructions, see Searching for Trials.
  2. On the main menu, click Associated Trials.
    The Associated Trials page may display one or more associated trial records.

  3. Click Add.
    The Add/Edit Associated Trial page appears.

  4. Do one of the following to identify the trial you want to associate:
    • To search for a trial that has been registered in the CTRP, click Look Up Trial, search for the trial, and then select its NCI Trial Identifier link.
    - or -
    • To associate a trial that has not yet been registered in the CTRP, select or enter the information in the fields provided. Fields marked with an asterisk ( * ) are required.

      Trial Identifier*

      Type the numeric or alphanumeric identifier.

      Examples:

      • NCI-2000-00015
      • ECOG-1234

      Inter-Group trials use the lead Group’s trial number.

      Identifier Type*

      Select the type of identifier you want to search for from the drop-down list. For identifier type descriptions, see the list of identifiers in Searching for Trials .

      Trial TypeSelect Interventional or Non-Interventional.
      Trial Sub-TypeSelect Observational or Ancillary-Correlative.
      Official Title

      Enter, or copy and paste, the name of the clinical trial as it appears in the Protocol document.

  5. Click Save.
    The trials are associated. You can repeat the steps above to associate other trials.

Editing and Deleting Trial Associations

You can edit or delete trial associations as necessary. When editing an association, you can change the details of associated trials that have not  been registered with the CTRP.  You cannot change the details of trials that have been registered, but you can change the association to a different trial, or create a new association.

When you delete an associated trial record, you disassociate it from another trial. The trial record itself is not deleted.

How to Edit and Delete Trials

To edit an associated trial, click the Edit icon (pencil).
The Add/Edit Trial Association page appears.

If you are editing an associated trial that is currently registered in the CTRP, you can change the current association to a different trial that is also registered in the CTRP. You can not change any other aspect of the trial information.

If you are editing an associated trial that has not been registered in the CTRP, you can change any aspect of the trial information.

Do one of the following to edit the associated trial:

  • If the associated trial is currently registered in the CTRP, click Look Up Trial and select the trial from the results list. You are returned to the Associated Trials page automatically.

    -or-
  • If the associated trial is not currently registered in the CTRP, enter new trial information as per the instructions in Adding and Editing Trial Associations, and then click Save. You are returned to the Associated Trials page automatically.
