You can delete a data file (or link) and associated metadata, if the following criteria are all true: 

  • Your user account has the group administrator role. 
  • You own that data file. For information on the Own permission level, refer to About Permission Levels.
  • That data file is less than 90 days old. (This criterion does not apply to links.)

any data file (or link) and associated metadata.


To delete a file or link: 

  1. Log in as described in Logging In via the GUI. The Dashboard appears.
  2. Include Page
    shared step - browse for content

  3. Navigate to and right-click the data file you want to delete. Click View Details. The Data File page appears. 
  4. On the Data File page, click  click the delete icon ( The delete icon. ). A message appears, prompting you to confirm the deletion.
  5. Click OK. By default, the system performs a soft deletion. The system permanently deletes the file. retains the file for two years and then permanently deletes it. Only DME system administrators can perform immediately permanent deletion.

To request deletion of data you do not own or older data, contact NCIDataVault@mail.nih.gov.
