  • "Mass", "lesion", "focus" are all examples of IMAGING OBSERVATIONS Imaging Observations.
  • "Occipital lobe", "parietal lobe" "Medial segment of middle lobe of right lung", etc. are all ANATOMIC ENTITIES Anatomic Entities.
  • "Speech center involvement", "pleural effusion"," pneumonia" are all examples of INFERENCES Inferences.

Once we define OBSERVATIONS Observations (OBS), ANATOMIC ENTITIES Anatomic Entities (AE), and INFERENCES Inferences (INF), we can then look at their CHARACTERISTICS Characteristics.

  • "Speculated", "Rim enhancement", "cystic", are all IMAGING OBSERVATION CHARACTERISTICS Imaging Observation Characteristics.
  • "Dilated", "Ruptured", etc. are examples of ANATOMIC ENTITY CHARACTERISTICS Anatomic Entity Characteristics.

Once we define IMAGING OBSERVATION CHARACTERISTICS and ANATOMIC ENTITY CHARACTERISTICS Imaging Observation Characteristics and Anatomic Entity Characteristics, we can then talk about QUANTIFICATION Quantification of these characteristics.

This notion of QUANTIFICATION _Quantification_is evolving in AIM 3.0 and AIM Template 1.0 so now is the time to A) comment and B) change your thought processes.

QUANTIFICATION Quantification of a CHARACTERISTIC Characteristic can be "present", "absent", "not applicable", a quartile/percentile/n-tile, an arbitrary scale, a Likert scale, or a FLOAT with a UCUM unit.
