Upgrade Notice

The NCI Wiki at http://wiki.nci.nih.gov is being upgraded to Confluence 3.2.1. Most of the features and functions remain the same, but the interface has changed and there are enhancements. Macros that have changed are being upgraded simultaneously with the release, so macros will work properly. When you use familiar macros for the first time you will see new syntax for some.

The wiki has a left sidebar in the new release that shows the navigation tree for the pages in the space. Search results are reported differently, enhancing navigation to the results of greatest interest.

The familiar tabbed editing interface is replaced by expanding menus in the right corner of each page. All the features and functions in the tabbed interface are present and easy to find. Note that the link to the Info page showing the Tiny Link (permanent link) is now on the Tools menu. The Favourites and Watch icons are also on the Tools menu, as is the Remove page link. The Notation Guide is visible only in Wiki Markup view in the new release.

The dynamic table macro is no longer supported. All instances found during user testing were blank, so no information is lost. The dynamic tasklist macro is now rendered as the tasklist macro.

The Viewfile macro now has parameters for file types. An existing Viewfile macro does not need to have the file type added, but a PowerPoint presentation loads very slowly the first time. A message eventually appears saying the file is being converted and instructing you to refresh after a period of time. When you refresh, the presentation opens.

The New Window User macro to set up a link that opens in a new window has been removed, as it does not work properly in the new version.

The Helpful Tips link in the page header opens the NCI CBIIT tips page (this page), which is being updated for the new release. As always if you need help and information you may contact the wiki master at wileyal@mail.nih.gov or you may contact Application Support and they will answer or forward your question. If you need additional permissions, use the New Account link in the header and Application Support will respond.

Using the Wiki

The goal of the wiki is to allow users to collaborate on developing documents and information. The architecture of the wiki is designed to make finding information easy, and is revised continually. Users are responsible for the accuracy of the information posted and for verification of information that they use. You can contribute content if you have an account (to request one, click the New Account link at the top of the page).

Important Notes

  • Do not copy the content of a wiki page to another wiki page. Include or link to the content.
  • Use the title of the page or the Tiny Link (not the URL displayed by the browser). The Tiny Link is a permanent link that is part of the info of a wiki page. It will work regardless of the number of edits performed.
  • No labels
