ICDC Team

Retrospective

Something our team did well is... (smile)

  • List anything that went well in this sprint including shout out to others that went out of their way to help (add your name after your comment)
  •  There are so many moving parts of the integration with the Seven Bridges Cancer Genomics Cloud (SBG-CGC) to enable the "Export" button from the Cart Page, backend, frontend, AWS buckets to store file manifests , CloudFront distributions to serve up pre-signed URLs, environment variables, etc. and although we are still working on this feature I witnessed incredible teamwork and people that worked very hard for many hours to figure out unforseen issues. I just wanted to say it was nice to see us working together and chipping away at something so challenging. (Kuffel, Gina (NIH/NCI) [C] )
  • Huge thanks to Rana, Ambar (NIH/NCI) [C]  for linking up the new CTDC data model files to an accessible instance of ICDC with the native Data Model Navigator pointing directly to them, and able to pick up changes as of me simply refreshing the browser after pushing the latest model files to GitHub (Musk, Philip (NIH/NCI) [C] )

Something that I think we need to improve for next time is... (sad)

  • List anything that we could have done better in this sprint (add your name after your comment)
  • I could have done a better job tracking the JBrowse dedicated session window work that was postponed last release. (Kuffel, Gina (NIH/NCI) [C] )

Something I learned about during this sprint is...(lightbulb)

  • List anything you learned more about in this sprint (add your name after your comment)
  • ...Web Application Firewalls and the restrictions they impose on client request body sizes, which limits the amount of data that can be transmitted to the server in a given request... (Eric)
  • I'm learning a lot about how we propose pricing of our projects to the government as well as the Impact Analysis Report (IAR) that is required to add options to an existing task order such as the ICDC. (Kuffel, Gina (NIH/NCI) [C] )
  • Learned just how useful being able to visualize a new data model while you're still assembling it actually is. Having the Data Model Navigator hooked up to the two yaml files for new, CMB-centric CTDC data model, and able to render changes to the model definition files in near real-time provides critical context as to where things stand, context  which you simply cannot get looking directly at the model definition files. (Musk, Philip (NIH/NCI) [C]

Actions

  • Better catalog/documentation of system changes, ie. a DevOps log
  • Always reschedule standup meetings
  • Be sure to update test cases if and when requirements evolve
  • DevOps leads should sign off on new microservice designs
