Retrospective

Something our team did well is... (smile)

  • List anything that went well in this sprint including shout out to others that went out of their way to help (add your name after your comment or feel free to keep it annonymous)
  • Thanks to the QA team for catching all of the issues stemming from my editing/updating of the backend OpenSearch indices - that could've gotten ugly fast if they'd gone unnoticed and I now have a more solid understanding of the implications of these updates throughout the backend. (Miller, Eric (NIH/NCI) [C]
  • Communication as always is a strong point of the team. When it comes to testing, any issues are always addressed promptly and thoroughly. Thank you DEV team they are fixed all issues quickly. (Epishina, Valentina (NIH/NCI) [C]).
  • Great work by QA and Backend team on identifying and fixing issues that would have been blockers. (Udosen, Toyo (NIH/NCI) [C] ).
  • Excellent support and flexibility from all of the engineers on this team. Everyone is very responsive on Slack regardless the time of day. Its wonderful to work with people that care so much about our project. (Kuffel, Gina (NIH/NCI) [C] )
  • Great teamwork within QA, communication and assisting with each other's workload. (Lewis, Megan (NIH/NCI) [C] )
  • Thank you Gina for providing the organization and tables needed for Design QA tickets. It's a small add-on but not minor in anyway! (Stogsdill, Hannah (NIH/NCI) [C] )
  • QA Team for identifying blockers and edge cases very difficult to identify. (Rana, Ambar (NIH/NCI) [C] )
  • BE query fix thanks Miller, Eric (NIH/NCI) [C]  (Rana, Ambar (NIH/NCI) [C]

Something that I think we need to improve for next time is... (sad)

  • List anything that we could have done better in this sprint (these comments can be anonymous)
  • The release timeline has been delayed multiple times (Kuffel, Gina (NIH/NCI) [C] )
  • ^^^^^^^^ this - I want to avoid blocking releases due to backend bugs in the future. I think this was largely due to my OpenSearch ignorance. (Miller, Eric (NIH/NCI) [C])
  • Short term fixes for GS query (Rana, Ambar (NIH/NCI) [C] )

Something I learned about during this sprint is...(lightbulb)

Actions

  • Kuffel, Gina (NIH/NCI) [C] to create at task in order to bundle web fonts with our application.
  • Better catalog/documentation of system changes, ie. a DevOps log
  • Always reschedule standup meetings
  • Be sure to update test cases if and when requirements evolve
  • DevOps leads should sign off on new microservice designs
  • Create an external service to cache data from external APIs (Performance Caching)
  • Mukherjee, Amit (NIH/NCI) [C] to create a DevOps task to implement performance caching and polling/reporting of outages to Slack or email.
