If you are logged into caNanoLab, My Workspace provides one page where you can manage all of your saved samples, protocols, and publications and any items that were shared with you. |

My Workspace
When you log in and click My Workspace, the system lists all of your saved samples, protocols, and publications on one page, along with all items that were shared with you (in green). You can view, edit, and remove these items from the caNanoLab database.
You can adjust what items are listed on My Workspace with the Samples, Protocols, or Publications boxes

MyWorkspace
When you click the MyWorkspace option on the caNanoLab menu bar, the MyWorkspace page appears. As a logged in user, you can load the Samples, Protocols, and/or Publications that you have submitted by checking the appropriate box(es) at the top of the page. Once the items are loaded, you can view and edit them.
Each table displays The Samples, Protocols, and Publications tables display the following information.

Managing Items in MyWorkspace
Once submitted items are loaded into MyWorkspace, you can view, edit, delete, or copy with the View and Edit links in the Action column.
Viewing a Sample
To display a MyWorkspace Sample from the MyWorkspace page.
Load the Samples into MyWorkspace, find the sample to review, and click View in the Action column.
The Sample page opens with the following information.Name Definition Sample Name
The name of the sample entered in caNanoLab.
Created Date Indicates the date on which the sample was submitted to caNanoLab. Keywords
Add any keyword(s) you want associated with the selected sample, one keyword per line. You can enter something not necessarily captured by any data. The keywords you enter can be used to search for this sample ID.
Point of Contact
The site that is source of the sample.
Primary Contact Indicating whether the point of contact is the main point of contact in the organization.
Contact Person A contact person at the organization. Organization The name of the organization for the point of contact.
Role The role of the point of contact at the organization. To return to the MyWorkspace page, click the Back ( ) button, not the Browser button.
Updating a Sample
Once the Samples are loaded in MyWorkspace:
Click Edit in the Action column of the sample row that you want to update, copy, delete, or reset.
The Sample Update page opens with the following information.Name Definition Sample Name
The name of the sample entered in caNanoLab.
Point of Contact
- To add additional Points of Contact, click Add. The Point of Contact dialog box displays. Add the information as needed, and click Save or Cancel. Another contact row is added.
- To edit the Point of Contact, click Edit in the appropriate contact row. The Point of Contact dialog box displays. Modify the information as needed, and click Save or Cancel. The contact row is updated.
- Primary Contact
Indicating whether the point of contact is the main point of contact in the organization.
- Contact Person
A contact person at the organization. - Organization
The name of the organization's point of contact.
- Role
The role of the point of contact in the organization. Keywords
Add any keyword(s) you want associated with the selected sample, one keyword per line. You can enter something not necessarily captured by any data. The keywords you enter can be used to search for this sample ID.
Access to the Sample - To add a Group Name, click Add. The Access Information panel displays. Click the Collaboration Group button, and enter a name.
To add a User Name Login, click Add. The Access Information panel displays. Click the User button, and enter a name. - If you enter a partial name, click the search icon to select from groups or users to which you have read access.
- Specify whether the group or user can read only or read, update, and delete the sample.
To remove the information that you just entered, click Remove. - When you are done, click Save. The row is updated.
- Group Name and Access
Displays the Group Name at the Organization that will have access to the sample. - User Login Name and Access
Displays the User at the Organization that will have access to the sample. Data Availability Metrics - To display the Data Availability Metrics for the sample, click Generate. The Metrics display.
- To edit the Metrics, click Edit. The Data Availability Metrics dialog box displays. See Data Availability Metrics for more information.
To reset the values and remove your changes, click Reset.
To remove the sample from caNanoLab, click Delete. Confirm the deletion. This action deletes the sample from the caNanoLab database, executed behind the scenes at a scheduled time.
To make a copy of the sample in caNanoLab, click Copy. For more information, see Copying Samples.
To save your changes, click Update.
Viewing a Protocol
To display a MyWorkspace Protocol from the MyWorkspace page:
Load the Protocols into MyWorkspace, find the protocol to review, and click View in the Action column.
Info title Note Not all protocols have PDF files associated with them, so the View link may not be available for every protocol.
You are prompted to open or save the file on your computer.
Updating a Protocol
Once the Protocols are loaded in MyWorkspace:
Click Edit in the Action column of the protocol row that you want to update, copy, delete, reset or submit.
The Protocol Update page opens with the following information for you to change.

The name of the sample entered in caNanoLab.

Shortened phrase used in place of the protocol name

Protocol Version

Enter or select from the drop-down list of protocol version numbers.

Protocol File

Click the Browse button to navigate to the protocol file.

Enter the title of the protocol file.

Enter any additional descriptive information that the form does not include.

- To add a Group Name, click Add. The Access Information panel displays. Click the Collaboration Group button, and enter a name.
To add a User Name Login, click Add. The Access Information panel displays. Click the User button, and enter a name. - If you enter a partial name, click the search icon to select from groups or users to which you have read access.

Shared by: username is an item that another user has shared with you, and the row appears in green .

My Samples
You can review and edit a sample, and delete a sample from the caNanoLab database.
Ensure that Samples is selected at the top of My Workspace and scroll down to My Samples.
Find the sample you want to review or change.
Select an action as described in the following table.
To... In the Actions column... Review a sample Click View. The Sample page opens.Update a sample Click Edit. The Update Sample page opens.
Info title Updating after approval If you need to update an item after it is released to the public, you must update and submit it for curator review again. Remove a sample from the caNanoLab database
Click Delete and confirm the removal. The system removes the sample from My Workspace and the caNanoLab database.
Share a Sample with a user or user group
Click Edit. For details, refer to Sharing a Sample with a User or Group.
My Protocols
You can review and edit a protocol, and delete a protocol from the caNanoLab database.
Ensure that Protocols is selected at the top of My Workspace and scroll down to My Protocols.
Find the protocol you want to review or change.
Select an action as described in the following table.
To... In the Actions column... Update a protocol Click Edit. The Edit Protocol page opens.

Click Delete and confirm the removal. The system removes the protocol from My Workspace and the caNanoLab database.
Share a protocol with another user or user group

My Publications
You can review and edit a publication, and delete a publication from the caNanoLab database.
Ensure that Publications is selected at the top of My Workspace and scroll down to My Publications.
Find the publication you want to review or change. My Publications includes a Publication ID and Publication Title column. The Publication ID, if available, links to the publication on the PubMed.gov web site.
Select an action as described in the following table.

Viewing a Publication
To display a MyWorkspace Protocol from the MyWorkspace page:
- Load the Protocols into MyWorkspace, find the protocol to review, and click View in the Action column.
The Publication information shows on the PubMed.gov web site.
Updating a Publication
Once the Publications load in MyWorkspace:

Click Edit in the row of the publication that you want to update, delete, reset, or submit.
The Publication Update page opens with the following information.
Name | Definition |
---|---|
Publication Type | Select (or review) the type of publication from the drop-down list. Pre-selected if starting from within a sample. |
Publication Status | If appropriate, from the drop-down list, select the appropriate status. Or if appropriate, simply review the status. |
PubMed ID | The PubMed ID (can be a hypertext link). Once you enter the ID, the other appropriate data fields on this form, such as Title, Journal, Authors, etc., are automatically populated. You can enter keywords and description, however, to override the text from PubMed. If you remove the PubMed ID, the related data fields are cleared. |

Title | Publication title. (See PubMed ID description for how to auto-populate this field) |
Journal | Journal in which publication occurs. |
Year of Publication | Year of the publication. |
Volume | Volume of the publication |
Authors | Publication authors. |
Keywords | A term that can be used in a search query to find the publication. |

Research Category | Check (or review) the Research Category relevant to the publication. |
File | Click the Browse button to navigate to the publication to be associated with the sample, or enter the URL where the publication is located. |
Sample Name | One or more sample names to be associated with the publication. |
