    • Pie charts that show fields from the investigations. While you can customize which fields appear in the pie charts, the default view includes When you first open the page or reset it to clear all selections, three pie charts appear that combine statistics show counts from the following investigation fields for all eight PSON data sets: investigations that match the values for Study Protocol Name, Study Assay Technology Type, and Study Assay Measurement Type. For example, in the screenshot above, the Study Assay Measurement Type pie chart shows that one investigation used genome sequencing, six used imaging assay, and two used transcription profiling. There are nine field values and only eight investigations because one investigation used two types of Study Assay Technology Measurement Type. You click

Click one or more pie slices to narrow down how much data is displayed in the pie chartsfilter the data by that/those field value(s). The investigation list refreshes each time you click a pie slicefilter the data in this way. You can also customize which fields appear in the pie charts and how many pie charts appear by adding and removing fields. You can return to the default pie charts anytime by clicking either Reset All or selecting Investigations > Browse.

For example, in the following screenshot, only a user has selected one slice of the Study Protocol Name pie chart has been selected: plate cells. The number 4 next to the label plate cells means that four investigations have are associated with the Study Protocol Name field value of plate cells. Those four have a null value for Study Assay Technology Type, which is the second pie chart, and all use the same Study Assay Measurement Type of imaging assay. Note that you do not only have to select only one pie slice. The more slices you select, in one or more pie charts, the more narrowly you filter the investigation data and the fewer investigations match your selections.

    • A list of investigation details below the pie charts. These investigation details match the fields you have selected in the pie charts; for . For example, in the screenshot above, each investigation includes the same investigation fields as the pie chart--Study Protocol Name, Study Assay Measurement Type, and Study Assay Technology Type–plus Study Title and Description. The default list shows every investigation available in the portal, but when you add or remove fields from the pie charts, the number of investigations may change. You can return to the default (full) list at anytime by selecting Investigations > Browse.

To continue with the example of the plate cells selection, the following screenshot shows how that selection in the pie chart impacts the investigation list. The list includes only those four investigations that have a Study Protocol Name of plate cells. The list also shows additional data about each investigation, such as the other keywords used in the Study Protocol Name field.
