This is a significant version upgrade and has an effect on how pages are displayed and edited. For Information regarding the changes to Confluence in version 4.2.8 refer to the following pages, which show and describe the new Confluence 4 editor.
- Frequently Asked Questions on the Atlassian site
- Quick Reference to Confluence 4 on the Atlassian site
The Tips on the NCI Wiki show wiki markup, which you can use as a guide to completing the macro dialogs in the new editor. You can also insert wiki markup in the new editor.
Demonstrations of Confluence 4.2 are also available.
The following issues have been identified:
- The Calendar plugin has been deprecated for Confluence 4.2.8 and has been replaced with Team Calendars. Refer to Creating a New Team Calendar.
- Issues may appear with the Composition Plugin, specifically the Deck of Cards macro and the Cloak macro. Refer to Deck of Cards fix after Confluence 4.2.8 Upgrade and Cloak macro fix after Confluence 4.2.8.

Code Block [#Heading]
show the # in the text. Hover over the link, select the option to Edit, and remove the # in the editing interface.
- Some macros migrated from 3.5 are surrounded by paragraph breaks after the page is saved in Confluence 4.2.8 for the first time. This happens frequently with multi-excerpt includes. In the Edit page interface, select the option to view the XHTML source (displayed as <> on the upper right) and remove the paragraph breaks.
- To put characters used in wiki markup in your text, type the character. For a pair of characters such as square brackets, enter the characters and then press the back arrow and enter the text. For example, the following was entered in this way: [This is not a link.].
Once the upgrade is complete, please look over your most often used pages and spaces and, if you have an issue, create a ticket by sending email to Application Support. App Support will answer or forward your question.
