Project Summary

To view TCGA MRIs and download their DICOM files go to the NBIA website and search the collection named: TCGA

The Cancer Imaging Program (CIP) is working directly with primary investigators from institutes participating in TCGA to obtain and load images relating to the genomic, clinical, and pathological data being stored within the TCGA Data Portal.  Currently this large MR multi-sequence image collection of pre-surgical glioblastoma patients can be matched by each unique case identifier with the extensive gene and expression data of the same case from the Cancer Genome Atlas Data Portal to research the link between clinical phenome and tissue genome.  Over time it is expected to grow in diversity, including other tumor types that are being collected as part of the funded TCGA activities.

These images were also utilized as part of the caBIG TCGA Enterprise Use Case project. This caBIG enterprise use case involves loading the TCGA images stored in NBIA into 3 different workstations that are being developed with annotation and markup capabilities based on Annotation Imaging Markup (AIM)

As of October 2009 the caBIG Imaging Workspace completed Phase I of this Enterprise Use Case. ClearCanvas (Windows), Osirix (Mac) and XIP (caBIG open source/cross platform) were customized to allow retrieval of images from NBIA over the caGrid, markup in AIM standards, and storage back to an AIM-E data service. More information can be found on the TCGA Radiology Project Phase I Homepage.
