You can easily create a link from one page to another within the same wiki:

  1. In the destination page (the page to which you want your link to point), copy the URL of the page from the browser address bar.
  2. In the page you want to change, click Edit
  3. At the place on the page where you want the link to appear, paste the URL. Confluence automatically converts the URL to a link with the title of the page as the link text.
  4. Consider keeping the link text as it is, so that Confluence will automatically update the link if the page title changes. (Refer to the note below.) However, you can edit the link text, if necessary.
  5. If necessary, edit the link address:
    1. Click the link text. A row of buttons appears.
    2. Click Edit. The Edit link dialog box appears.
    3. Select one of the following options:
      • Select Search. Enter the page title. Select the title from the list.
      • Select Recently viewed. Select the title from the list.
    4. Click Save

Avoid using the wiki Tiny Link when linking from one page to another within the same wiki. Such a link does not show up in the list of Incoming Links for the destination page.

Linking to another wiki page or website

The following are the steps to link to another wiki page or a website.

  1. Type the description to use for the link text.
  2. Highlight your link text.
  3. Click the link icon in the Rich Text editor.
  4. In the dialog box, paste the Tiny Link for the page or the URL for the website.

You can also link to another wiki page by typing its name in square brackets, or paste the Tiny Link to the page or the link to the website directly into your text. Web accessibility guidelines indicate that links embedded with link text are preferred.

If you link to a site other than a US government site, include the destination in your link text, for example "topic (as explained on wikipedia.org).

Note
titleNote

If

you link to a page by its title and

someone changes the title of the page to which you

've

have linked

to

, the result depends on how you specified the link

will change automatically. However, the page title in your text will not change. If you use the Tiny Link, the link will not break regardless of changes in the page to which you are linking.
  • If you have linked by page title, and someone changes the page title you have linked to, your page will indicate it was last edited by the person who changed the title of the page you linked to. If your page is restricted for viewing and editing, it will still be shown as having been changed by this person, who may not be in your LDAP group or able to see your page.
  • Wiki Markup

    text:

    • If you kept the link text provided by Confluence, then Confluence updates the link automatically. Here is an example of this type of link, as it appears in the Source Editor:

      Code Block

Refer to <ac:link>
          <ri:page ri:content-title="Links"/>
        </ac:link>.

    • If you edited the link text, then Confluence does not update the link. Here is an example of this type of link, as it appears in the Source Editor:

      Code Block

Refer to <ac:link>
          <ri:page ri:content-title="Links"/>
          <ac:plain-text-link-body>All about Links</ac:plain-text-link-body>
        </ac:link>.
