The following are the steps to link to a specific place on a page.

  1. Navigate to the place to which you want to link.
  2. Immediately before the text to which you want to link, enter an anchor: {anchor:anchortext} where "anchortext" will be used as a "bookmark" in the link you create.
  3. Navigate to the place where you want to insert the link.
  4. Create the link in the following form: [linktext|#anchortext]

If you want to link from another website to a specific place on a page, the link must be in the following form: https://wiki.nci.nih.gov/x/MId8#caBIG-CBIITProductsAtoZ-caint (which represents https://wiki.nci.nih.gov/display/CommonProjects/caBIG-CBIIT+Products+A+to+Z#caBIG-CBIITProductsAtoZ-caint) The tiny link for the page is https://wiki.nci.nih.gov/x/MId8

Thus the link from another website to a specific place on a page is constructed as follows: the tiny link followed by # PLUS the full text of the anchor as displayed in the browser window. If you change the name of the page, the link will no longer work.
