The caNanoLab User's Guide is the companion documentation to the caNanoLab software application. The user's guide includes information and instructions for using caNanoLab.

Organization of this Guide


The following topics introduce you to the caNanoLab portal and describe concepts you need to know to use caNanoLab.

Visibility of options

Based on your permissions, in caNanoLab you may not see all of these options described in this user's guide/in these help topics. For more information, see Permissions and Visibility.

About caNanoLab – Provides an overview and instructions to start using the caNanoLab portal

Managing Protocols – Describes how to submit and search for existing protocols

Managing Samples – Describes the processes for submitting and updating samples, and searching samples

Managing Sample Composition Annotations – Describes the caNanoLab Composition feature which displays and enables you to enter composition information for nanomaterial entities and functionalizing entities as well as chemical associations. Also describes how to edit composition annotations.

Managing Sample Characterizations – Describes the caNanoLab Characterization feature which displays and enables you to enter physico-chemical, in vitro and in vivo characterization information for samples. Also describes how to edit characterization annotations.

Managing Publications – Describes how to submit and search samples publications such as journal articles, book chapters, reports as well as publications supporting sample data.

Administration – Describes how to link to the NCI's Common Security Module (CSM) where you can create users in the User Provisioning Tool (UPT). It also describes curation processes and how to configure site preferences.

caNanoLab Glossary – Defines caNanoLab-relevant terms used in this guide.

Document Text Conventions

The following table illustrates how text conventions are represented in this guide. The various typefaces differentiate between regular text and menu commands, keyboard keys, toolbar buttons, dialog box options and text that you type.
