The following are the steps to link to a specific place on a page.

  1. Navigate to the place to which you want to link.
  2. Immediately before the text to which you want to link, enter an anchor: {anchor:anchortext} where "anchortext" will be used as a "bookmark" in the link you create.
  3. Navigate to the place where you want to insert the link.
  4. Create the link in the following form: [linktext|#anchortext]

If you want to link from another website to a specific place on a page, the link must be in the following form: https://wiki.nci.nih.gov/x/MId8#caBIG-CBIITProductsAtoZ-caint (which represents https://wiki.nci.nih.gov/display/CommonProjects/caBIG-CBIIT+Products+A+to+Z#caBIG-CBIITProductsAtoZ-caint) The tiny link for the page is https://wiki.nci.nih.gov/x/MId8

Thus the link from another website to a specific place on a page is constructed as follows: the tiny link followed by # PLUS the full text of the anchor as displayed in the browser window, without the plus signs. If you change the name of the page, the link opens the page but does not go to the specific place on the page.
