Requirements

Key Points

For accessibility:

  • You must not merge cells in tables. Merged table cells are not Section 508-compliant.
  • You must enter meaningful information in each table cell, as blank cells are not Section 508-compliant. Repeat data in each cell to which it applies. Indicate "none" or "not applicable" where appropriate.
  • You must include alt text for every image posted on the wiki. In addition, describe the important aspects of the image in the text. Refer to Adding Alt Text to an Image.

Wiki Use, Duplication of Content, Links to Wiki Pages

Using the Wiki

The goal of the wiki is to allow users to collaborate on developing documents and information. Users are responsible for the accuracy of the information posted and for verification of information that they use. You can contribute content if you have an account (to request one, click the New Account link at the top of the page).

If you want two wiki pages to display the same content, consider linking from one page to another, or using an Include page, rather than copying the content from one page to another. For information on using an Include page, refer to Including the content of a page on another page. Copying may be acceptable when preparing drafts for review before release, or when a new page needs similar content (not the same content) as an existing page.

When you create a link that points to a wiki page, the best type of link to create depends on where you intend to create that link:

  • If you intend to create the link within the wiki, copy the URL of the destination page from the browser address bar and paste the URL where you want to create the link. The wiki automatically converts the URL into a link with the title of the page as the link text. This type of link automatically updates. That is, if someone changes the page title, the wiki updates the link. If you then edit the link text, it changes to the type of link that does not automatically update.
  • If you intend to create the link outside of the wiki, use the Tiny Link. The Tiny Link is a permanent link and you can access it by clicking the button with the three dots in the upper right of any wiki page in view mode, and then selecting Page Information. The Tiny Link will continue to work if the page title is changed.

For more information on links, refer to Linking to another wiki page or website.
