When you are editing a wiki page, Confluence responds to some characters with autocomplete or autoformatting, as described in the following Atlassian help page:

However, you can also use those characters without autocomplete or autoformatting. 

  1. Type the character, such as an asterisk (*), or pair of characters, such as brackets ([]). Confluence responds with autocomplete or autoformatting.
  2. Press Ctrl+Z. Confluence cancels the autocomplete or autoformatting.
  3. Continue entering your text. 

For example, the following was entered in this way: [This is not a  link.].
