Plain Language Reviews

Plain language makes it easier for the public to read, understand, and use government communications. The Plain Writing Act of 2010 requires that federal agencies use clear government communication that the public can understand and use.

Using checklists of plain language evaluation criteria from https://www.plainlanguage.gov/resources/checklists/web-checklist/ and https://www.nih.gov/sites/default/files/institutes/plain-language/nih-plain-language-checklist.pdf, we can evaluate any document or website for plain language. The following example shows how we can contribute to this goal.

Editing

In addition to plain language reviews, we can edit any document or website during its lifecycle. We can create final PDFs that are Section 508 conformant.

Enterprise Document Format Migrations

We can migrate documents between Confluence, SharePoint Online, Microsoft Word, and OneNote. More information about migrating content from Confluence to SharePoint Online is available. Please complete a service request for migration services.

Wiki Features

This catalog demonstrates selected features available on the NCI Wiki. For exploratory purposes, this catalog also includes examples of these features implemented using a site generator  (or other tools).

Video

We created the following two videos using Camtasia and posted them to YouTube to benefit from custom closed captions for Section 508 compliance. By default, Confluence uses the Widget Connector macro to preview YouTube videos.

Video explaining how to use MedICI to Submit Results to a Medical Imaging Challenge

We created the following video using Camtasia and embedded it in a Confluence macro called Multimedia instead of using the Widget Connector. Notice the built-in player and extra white space around the video on this page.

We created the following video from screenshots. First, we used SnagIt to simplify the screenshots. Simplified screenshots draw attention to appropriate areas of the screen, and reduce how often the video needs to be updated. Then, we used Movavie to record each part of the video, assemble those parts, and add subtitles. The assembly of parts facilitates future updates.

Confluence Gliffy Flowchart

We created the following diagram within this Confluence page, using a Gliffy macro.
