Labels help keep related pages together, for reference by the page owners and to help other users of the site. This page includes the following topics:

Add a label to a page

  • Using the Labels option that follows the editing window, enter the label or labels in the text box.
  • Click Done.

You can enter any text you want for a label. To separate words, use the underline character, for example: separate_words. Labels are all lowercase.

Global and personal labels

  • To add a label, type the label and click Add or select the label.
  • Note that personal labels in the form my:label are deprecated and will be removed from Confluence.

Remove a label

  • Click the link to edit the label and click the link or icon to remove it.

Add a space label

If you have the needed permissions, you can add a label to a space. If you do not have these permissions (can't see the links described in these steps), and want a space label, ask an administrator.

  • Select Browse Space Admin.
  • Select Space Labels.
  • In the Labels area, type the label and click Add, or select a label.

Add a category label

You can add a Category label to a space, to associate all the spaces associated with that category.

  • To see spaces with a Category label, click the Space Categories tab on the Dashboard.

To add a Category label

  • Select Browse Space Admin.
  • Select Space Labels.
  • In the Space Categories area, type the label and click Add, or select a label.

Display a list of content with a particular label

  • Search for the label; the matching label, if any, will be shown on the search results page.
  • If you are in a page that has a label or labels, click a label to view a list of all content in the space with that label.
  • Use the Content by Label macro to display a list of content having a particular label.
    • Type { cont and when the list of macros opens select Content by Label.
    • Complete the parameters and select Insert.

An example follows, listing the pages that have the label "finding_information."

Browse Labels to display lists of available labels and content with those labels

  • Select Browse Labels.
  • Select Popular Labels to see a "tag cloud" of the most often used (popular) labels; select the link to sort alphabetically or by popularity.
  • Select All labels to view an alphabetical list of all labels in the space.
  • Select global popular labels or labels from all spaces  to view a list of labels in use on the entire site.
  • Select a label to list all content with that label and any existing Related Labels (that frequently appear on the pages).
