What is a "child page"?
A child page is a subordinate page. When you are viewing any page, you can see if it has one or more child pages.
- Scroll down to the bottom. If there is a list of links under the heading Children, those links are to the child pages.
- If necessary click the link to Show the child pages.
- To create a child page, click the Add Page link at the upper right of the page.
You create child pages for content that is related to the content of the higher level page, but more specific.
A Confluence wiki Space is a group of pages that can be administered together and may be browsed together. For users who author and edit content, the Space serves to organize pages on closely related topics in one place.
To navigate a wiki Space:
- Click the link for a Space in the list on the left side of the Dashboard.
A Space opens at its "wiki home page." Like every Confluence page, this "wiki home page" can have "child pages."
- Scroll down to see the links to the "child pages."
Typically these child pages are "home pages" for major activities in the Space, such as CBIIT products and caBIG® workspaces. The FAQs, Tips and Guidelines page is an example of a "wiki home page" with many child pages. Each "home page" is the top level page of a "page family." A Space can contain many "page families."
Each home page on a topic can have any number of "child" pages. Each "child" page in turn can also have "child" pages. This forms a hierarchical grouping of pages (page family) on one topic.
- Click the Pages option on the Browse menu at the top right of any page.
- Then click each link to see how you can view listings of the content of a Space, and monitor changes by watching the Space or subscribing to RSS.
Note: Typically you do not need a separate Space in which to work. You can create a page family for your team in an existing Space.
All the pages in a Space can be administered together. This means the Space Administrator can set permissions for all the pages in a Space and perform certain other functions for the entire Space too.
