Linking to a Specific Place on a Page

A hierarchy of small wiki pages is easier to maintain than one large wiki page with sections. However, if you want to divide your content into sections within a single wiki page, you might need to create a link that points to a specific place on a page. To do so, you can use an anchor (which is like a bookmark) or a heading. 

If someone moves an anchor or a heading from one page to another, Confluence does not update links pointing to that anchor or heading. Those links continue to point to the original page. If the anchor or heading no longer exists in that page, the link displays the top of that page. 

To create an anchor and create a link pointing to that anchor: 

1. Navigate to the place to which you want to link.

2. Immediately after the text to which you want to link, enter an anchor. This text will be at the top of the screen when the link opens.

   1. Type as much of the following as needed to open the macro browser:

      {anchor

   2. Select the Anchor macro.  The Insert ‘Anchor’ Macro dialog box appears.
   3. Enter the Anchor Name and click Insert. The Anchor macro appears. 
3. Navigate to the place where you want to insert the link. 
4. Open the link dialog box and specify the anchor in the Advanced field: 

   • If that place is on the same page, enter the link in the following form: 

     #anchortext

   • If that place is on another wiki page, enter the link in the following form: 

     Name of Page#anchortext

     For example, this Warning to avoid duplication of content link has the following destination: 

     Tips for Authors and Editors#avoidduplicationofcontent

   • If the page is in another space, precede the page name with the space key, as follows:

     spacekey:Name Of Page#anchortext

To create a link pointing to a heading:

1. Navigate to the place where you want to insert the link. 
2. Open the link dialog box and specify the heading in the Advanced field:

1. • If that place is on the same page, enter the link in the following form: 

     #HeadingText

   • If that place is on another wiki page, enter the link in the following form: 

     Name Of Page#HeadingText

     For example, this Create TOC link has the following destination: 

     Putting a table of contents on a page#Createanewpagewithatableofcontents

   • If the page is in another space, precede the page name with the space key, as follows:

     spacekey:Name Of Page#HeadingText
