Access to My Workspace

If you are logged into caNanoLab, My Workspace provides one page where you can manage all of your saved samples, protocols, and publications and any items that were shared with you.

This chapter describes how to use My Workspace. Topics in this chapter include:

My Workspace Tables

When you log in and click My Workspace, all of your saved samples, protocols, and publications and items that were shared with you (in green) are listed on one page. You can view, edit, and remove these items from the caNanoLab database. 

The My Samples, My Protocols, and My Publications tables display the following information.  

Hiding tables

You can adjust how many items are listed on My Workspace with the Samples, Protocols, or Publications boxes at the top of the page.

Actions

Provides access to View (where applicable), Edit, or Delete the item from the database.

Note

For a protocol, if View is not in the Actions column, the protocol file is not available.

For a publication, if View is not in the Actions column, there is no associated publication PubMed ID at the PubMed.gov web site.

Name or Title

The name of the sample, protocol, or publication defined for the item in caNanoLab.

Submission Status

Includes the following

  • Pending:  The item was submitted for curator review.
  • Public: A curator reviewed the item and approved it for release to the public.

    Updating after approval

    If you need to update the item after being released to the public, update the information and submit it for review again.


  • In Draft: An item was submitted by the owner but not yet reviewed by the curator.  
  • Retracted:  The item was deleted, the access was changed, or it is no longer publicly available.

Created Date

The date on which the item was initially submitted in caNanoLab.

Access

Indicates the access defined for the current sample, protocol, or publication.

If the column contains the following information, Owner, Shared with: username, username, it is an item that you submitted as Owner:

  • Owner is your user name.
  • Shared with is the username following the comma and the user with which you shared the item.

If the column contains the following information, Shared by: username, it is an item that another user has shared with you, and the row appears in green.

  • Shared by is your user name.

For a Publication, there is also a Publication ID hyperlink which, if available, displays information at the PubMed.gov web site.

The following sections describe what actions you can perform on samples, protocols, and publications listed in My Workspace.

Samples

The following table lists and describes the sample tasks you can perform from My Workspace.

Edit
The Update Sample page enables you to update sample information, update access to the sample, and generate data availability access.

Updating data after it is Public

Once data is made Public, you can update the data, but it will be retracted from Public, and you will need to submit it to the curator again for review.

  1. Fill in the following information as needed.

    To export sample information, refer to Exporting Sample Information to JSON or XML - include.
    General Information FieldsDefinition

    Sample Name*

    The name assigned to the sample (required).

    Point of Contact*

    The site that is the source of the sample (required).

    Click Edit to edit current information. Click Add to add another point of contact. 

    When you are done editing or adding the point of contact, confirm that you have read and understood the following message, and click Save

    Enter only public business-related contact information into these fields (such as institutional points of contact used in public publications). Do not add private contact information here, as this information will be made available to the public viewing the system. The system will contact you yearly, via the email address you provide, to ask if you would like to correct, update, or delete this information. If you would like to update it earlier, contact us via caNanoLab-Support@isb-cgc.org.

    Keywords

    Keyword(s) the submitter selected to associate with the selected sample.

    Access to the Sample

    For more information, refer to Sharing a Sample with a User or Group or Making a Sample Public

    If you do not add access

    If you do not add access, this item remains private and only you, the owner, can view and/or modify it.

    Data Availability Metrics

    For more information refer to Generating Data Availability Metrics

    If you paste text into an input field, review it before submitting the text to the system. Make sure the formatting (such as superscript, subscript, bold, and Italics), Greek letters, and other special characters appear as expected. For details, refer to Correcting Special Text


  2. Click Update when you are done editing the sample.

    You can also Copy and Delete the sample from the Update Sample page.

Delete

Note

Delete removes the sample from the caNanoLab database, executed behind the scenes at a scheduled time.

To delete a sample

  1. Perform a sample search.
  2. On the search results page, click Edit in the Actions column.
  3. From the Update Sample page, click Delete.
  4. Confirm the deletion.

ShareTo share a sample, click Edit. Update Sample opens. See Sharing and Changing Access to a Sample for additional instructions.

Protocols

The following table lists and describes the protocols tasks you can perform from My Workspace.

Delete

Delete removes the protocol from the caNanoLab database, executed behind the scenes at a scheduled time.

To delete a protocol

  1. Perform a search.
  2. On the search results, click Edit in the Actions column.
  3. From the Edit Protocol page, click Delete in the lower-left corner of the window.
  4. Confirm the deletion.

Share

To share a protocol, click Edit in the Actions column. Update Protocol opens. See Sharing and Changing Access to a Protocol for additional instructions.
